Ebony Tinkler tapped for Australian Women in Wine Awards

EBONY Tinkler of Hunter-based Usher Tinkler Wines has been selected as a marketer of the year finalist in the 2017 Australian Women in Wine Awards(AWIWA).

The winners in the eight 2017 award categories will be announced on Tuesday, September 26, at a ceremony at Australia House in London.

The awards were established in 215 by The Fabulous Ladies’ Wine Society to turn the spotlight on positive female role models and bring about a significant rise in gender diversity in the Australian wine industry.

Mrs Tinkler, the wife of ace winemaker Usher Tinkler, is the owner and manager of the innovative Usher Tinkler tasting rooms, cellar door and salumi and cheese bar in McDonalds Rd, Pokolbin.

She gained a bachelor of science degree majoring in biotechnology at the University of Newcastle, then completed a UON post-graduate diploma in marketing and is now studying Mandarin at UON.

As a student she worked in the Tempus Two cellar door and, after completing her degree, worked as a laboratory technician at the Poole’s Rock Pokolbin winery.

Along with Imogen Hayes of Handpicked Wines and Trish Barry of Mastermind Consulting, she is one of three AWIWA marketer of the year finalists.

Other award categories are winemaker of the year, viticulturist of the year, owner-operator of the year, workplace champion of change, cellar door person of the year, researcher of the yearand 2017 woman of inspiration.

About 60 Australian women in wine members will fly to London for the awards ceremony, which will incorporate a major tasting for UK drinks trade and consumers featuring wines from female producers.

The London event will be streamed via a live internet broadcast on September 26 at 7 pm AEST. The Hunter Valley and other Australian wine regions and cities are expected to host their own gatherings to watch the broadcast and celebrate the announcements.
